Thanks for your input. I did check the oil pump. It is working. Themain problem I can see is that as the cam starts to wear, the exhaust rocker arm hits the decompression assembly. So instead of the rocker riding on the cam through the entire revolution, it sits freely until the cam lobe comes along and smacks the rocker. It produces a definite ticking sound. I have a picture of the old cam I can post. It is very evident where the rocker arm has been hitting the cam lobe.
